IEEE release 802.11 wireless LAN standard that defines how radio frequency in the unlicensed industrial, medical and scientific frequency band used for the Physical layer and MAC sub-layer of wireless link. Until today wireless LAN standard have continuously improve with the release of IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g and IEEE 802.11n. Wireless n router
Wireless n is intended to improve data rates and range without requiring additional RF band allocation and power. Wireless n claims data rates about 54 Mbps to 600 Mbps with range maximum 230 feet. It uses 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. If it using 2.4 GHz band with your wireless n router is that you can still use 802.11g client but it can be prone to interference from cordless phone, microwave and others device that also use 2.4 GHz band. If it using 5 GHz band, all client must be use 802.11n standard and some country do not permit the use of the 5 GHz band and the advantage using 5 GHZ are less interference, drastically more effective. The wireless n use MIMO technology that can splits a high data rate steam into multiple low rate streams and broadcasts them simultaneously over the available radios and antennae.
Wireless g router
Wireless g claims data rate maximum about 54 Mbps with range maximum 150 feet. It use 2.4 GHz band. Wireless g uses DSSS or OFDM technology as modulation. If using DSSS wireless g achieves 11 Mbps data rates and compatible with 802.11b client, and if using OFDM technology will achieves 54 Mbps data rate. The advantage using this standard is the transmissions are not easily obstructed. The disadvantage is about interference with other device that also use 2.4 GHz band.
